When it comes to your Bridal Hair and Make up why risk it

When it comes to your Bridal Hair and Make up why risk it

Why risk it?!

Everyone has something about them that they dislike, that’s a fact. Every time some one sits in my chair they almost always start by apologising for their ‘wonky smile’ or ‘uneven brows’ or something else that simply doesn’t matter. The truth is that as Ladies we give ourselves a really hard time when we don’t think we look exactly how we imagine ‘perfect’ should look. Multiply that by ten and that’s how we feel as brides. Everyone is going to be looking at you, you’ll be the centre of attention, it has to look perfect…does that sound familiar?!

I’ll let you in on a little secret – no one is perfect. Nope, not even the gorgeous Michelle Keegan or flawless Jennifer Aniston. When people come for their preview sessions and style trials they will often bring along pictures of airbrushed celebrities with a desire to look just like that. Of course, on your wedding day you want to look your most beautiful, but you always want to look like you. I always tell my brides that you simply want to be an enhanced version of yourself. The ‘you’ that you could quite easily achieve if you had three hours every morning and an extra pair of hands, trained specifically for that purpose, to help you create it! A big part of your day is your photos, after the day itself has passed , alongside your memories all you have are those images captured by your photographer to remind you or just how wonderfully it truly was. You certainly don’t want to look back upon those pictures and wish that you had invested a little more in a professional for the guarantee that your hair and make up would be exactly how you wished it would. I get a lot of last minute enquiries from bride to be’s that had opted to use a ‘friend of a friend’ or a ‘cheaper’ alternative, and whilst some of them are so lucky – finding some amazing new talent and stylists with real skills who are building a name for themselves – so many of them aren’t so fortunate. Brides have called me in tears the night before their wedding, begging for help when their ‘cheaper alternative’ has text to say they wont be turning up the following day.

Of all the things that you invest in on your wedding day and all the ways in which you choose to allocate your ever growing wedding budget , be sure that you don’t compromise in areas that you will regret later. Bridal hair and make up is what I do, It’s what I specialise in, and its what I love. The way you look on the very best day of your life is a very big deal – not just on the day, and not just for you- but for the next 50 years that you’ll spend looking at those amazing photos that yourself and your family will put up in pride of place on their mantelpiece or hang on their wall. (No pressure then!) If you’re looking for someone who can help you and work with you to create the very best version of you, for the very best day of your life then please do get in touch – I look forward to getting excited about your wedding with you!

Wedding Trials and Preview Sessions

Can you believe that it’s already March!? I am well underway with the bridal trials for all my 2017 summer brides now and it is so exciting to be meeting so many of you in preparation for your big day! I’m often asked what a preview session involves and what you can expect so I thought I’d put together some pointers for you. Although it is not a requirement for you to have a preview session it really does gives us a chance to work together and perfect your bridal style – plus it’s so exciting for you to see exactly what you’re actually going to look like!! If you have any questions then please do get in touch, you are more than welcome to drop me an email at info@prettypleasebykatie.co.uk but in the mean time, here are a few of my most commonly asked questions for you …

  • So what happens at the bridal preview session? The point of the preview session is for us to get some time to talk about what you want from your big day. We start with a consultation, you can tell me a little about the plans you have for the day, what you’re wearing, your theme and colour choices – and together we can develop an understanding as to what you want to look like and how we are going to make your look compliment all of these other factors. The session lasts around 90 minutes for hair or make up, and around 2 1/2 hours for both. We will create your look, based on the things we discuss, so you can actually see what you’re going to look like on the day itself!
  • Do I need to bring anything? A lot of brides come prepared with a Pintrest board so I can instantly see what ‘kind’ of wedding style you are working towards. If you don’t have Pintrest – fear not! You can show me some pictures of things you like – and especially things that you don’t! This is really important as it leads me to gain a much better understanding of what you expect and require from me. Oh, and if you have a veil or accessories then bring them along too!
  • Shall I wash my hair or take off my make up? Please come to your make up preview appointment make up free. This allows me to see your skin, your natural colouring etc and means that we can proceed straight into make up application. In regards to washing your hair , ‘day old’ hair is easier for me to style, really clean and soft hair can mean that I end up having to use a lot more product to manipulate it into the shape I want. Please do not curl or straighten your hair before your appointment, let it dry into it’s natural state if you can and then i can take it from there!
  • Can I only try one look? This is totally up to you. If you know exactly what you want then I will create this look first. If you are certain that it’s what you want upon seeing it in ‘real’ life then –  perfect! However, as we go along I might be able to make some suggestions or tweaks that you might appreciate, or as we create the style you may decide that actually it isn’t quite right for you. Either way I am more than happy to show you an alternative – you are welcome and encouraged to take lots of pictures so you don’t have to make any instant decisions either!
  • When can I have my preview session? I can be flexible in regards to timings when it comes to preview sessions. generally morning slots ( when available) fill fast. Most of my mornings are spent with brides on their wedding day so I tend to schedule preview sessions in the afternoon. I offer both evening and weekend availability so if you work or are restricted in any way then just let me know and we can work something out for you.
  • What if I change my mind? Not a problem. You can book as many preview sessions as you like! Each session is charged separately but there is no limit to the amount you can book! If you don’t feel that you need another session , you just want a few things slightly different on the day itself then that’s fine. Just make sure you let me know before hand so I can come with everything I need!

Like I said if you need anything else then please do just ask! Stay up to date with what I’m up to and get lots of bridal inspiration from my Instagram and Facebook pages too!

Annekas’ Bridal Hair and Make Up

I was excited to work with Anneka as it wasn’t the first time we had met. I provided hair and make up for her sister Michelles wedding previously, and its always such a lovely feeling to know that people were happy with your service – enough so that they would invite you back! Recommendation means the world and its so nice to find myself re visiting past brides when they become bridesmaids – or even having a bride book me because she had experienced my hair and make up services as a bridesmaid in the past!

Annekas wedding took place on 19th February 2016 at The Bromely Court Hotel in Kent. Her theme was white and ice blue and the bridesmaids wore the most beautiful coloured dresses. Anneka herself wore white, of course, and her hair and make up suited her princess dress perfectly. We twisted her long blonde locks into a classic curly bun, dressed in diamante pins, pearl and blue in colour. Anneka opted for airbrush make up, as do so many of my brides. Airbrush make up is high definition make up, it gives a beautifully flawless finish and photographs perfectly. What’s more it lasts all day so I can provide my bride with the assurance that she will look as good as she does at 2pm…at 2am!

As you can see from the photos below, with thanks from Dan Potter photography, the girls looked stunning. I’m so pleased you had such an amazing day Anneka, enjoy Florida ( lucky lady! ) and I wish you both the happiest of happy ever afters!

Bridesmaids Hair

Bridesmaids Hair

Sometimes my brides are happy to let the bridesmaids decide on their hairstyle , other times they like them all to wear their hair in the same style. Does it matter to you? Here’s some important things to consider when selecting a style for your bridesmaids:

– The colour of their hair. As a general rule more intricate styles will always ‘show up’ better in blonde/lighter hair

-The length of their hair. Do you need to add any hair pieces to ensure all styles look the same weight/height/ size etc?

-Their face shape. maybe it really doesn’t suit your best friend to have her fringe scraped back from her face revealing the eyebrows that she hates…?

-Are they comfortable? You want your professional photos to look good so you want your girls to feel relaxed and comfortable.

-Will it last? If your chief bridesmaid has forever got her hand to her face is it really advisable to leave that bit of hair sweat across her forehead or will she just end up clipping it back?!

-Uniform. Not as in clothes but as in styles – if you are wanting the girls to wear a side bun, which side do you want it to? Do you want them all on the same side? Do you want to split it equally?

-Does it compliment your style? Maybe the most important question of all! You want your bridesmaids to look beautiful but do you want them to have an exact replica of your style? Or if you’re going for something understated do you really want them to have something more statement?

Don’t forget I offer free telephone consultations so if you’d like to discuss any ideas you have in more details please don’t hesitate to get in touch or contact me using the contact page on this website.

Westernhanger Castle Wedding Venue

Westernhanger Castle Wedding Venue

Westernhanger castle is One of the most stunning wedding venues in Kent! Recently under new ownership the beautiful settings and surrounding really are like something from a fairytale! The long private drive, the beautiful marquee and the gazebo all set for an outdoor wedding all add to the magic of this wonderful place!
The building inside is tastefully decorated and pays tribute to many of its original and restored features. The reception rooms down stairs are large enough for a wedding party whilst smaller rooms are available for a more intimate setting.
Westernhanger castle was a firm favourite with me when I did my first wedding there at the beginning of 2014. I had never been to the venue before and didn’t even know it existed! The bridal prep room is one of the most beautiful rooms I have seen in many of the Kent wedding venues I have visited!
The photos below were from the beautiful bride camille. Her wedding morning was a true family celebration and the fact that a lot of the conversation was made in French made it seem all the more romantic! Cami decided to go for a sophisticated updo with intricate details and one of my very favourite accessories- the birdcage veil! Congratulations cami, you made a truly beautiful bride!
